Adult Education: The Magi - January 4th, 9am Led by special guest Dr. Eric Vanden Eykel Dr. Eric Vanden Eykel is Dean of Faculty and Associate Professor of Religion at Ferrum College. This talk explores the story of the magi in the Gospel of Matthew, asking what the text actually says (and does not say) about these enigmatic figures. It then traces how Christians across the centuries have filled in the gaps, transforming the magi through art, theology, and tradition in ways that often reflect their own cultural concerns. Finally, the talk considers what the magi might still offer today as figures who cross boundaries, resist easy certainty, and invite reflection on how we recognize truth, power, and hope in our own world.
