About Sunday School
St. Mark's has a tradition of active participation amongst adult Sunday School class members with many lay members sharing responsibility for teaching and taking part in discussions. The group meets in the Carico library, enjoying coffee and conversation ahead of their 9:15 am study time.
This past summer many members learned that "the more you teach the more you learn" as they took turns sharing "My Favorite Bible Story". Twelve different lay members shared the leadership of these sessions.
This autumn, beginning Sunday, Sept 24, 2006 through Sunday, Nov. 5 members will explore the journal of Mary Edna Thompson, written during her pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Her book "Dancing with Jesus" is available to purchase in the Carico library. The class will read and discuss a portion of the book each week in an effort to help the author clarify and refine her own writing skills while all come to a deeper understanding of the meaning of Christian support through sharing.
Beginning Sunday, November 12, Dr. Robin Claytor will lead a new study series on German martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer's book "The Cost of Discipleship".
A study of the biblical roots of the liturgy of our Book of Common Prayer will be led by Chuck Geiger during the Epiphany season.
If YOU have a topic you would like to see developed or that you are willing to lead, please contact the Rector or Dr. Carole Geiger to discuss it. In the past we have conducted more than one class at a time in order that more people can become involved in leadership and in learning.
