To know Jesus Christ and to make Him known!
Welcomer
Virginia (Flash) Reynolds seeks to identify visitors and new members attending services at St. Mark's, and to make them feel welcome! Every effort is made to ensure that visitors sign the Guest Registry so that should they return, they can be identified. Whether it be providing help with finding pages in the prayer book, or making certain the guest is introduced to others during coffee hour, Flash seeks to learn more about our guests so that each will feel welcomed and thus want to come back again.
Coffee Hour
Just outside the St. Mark's Parish Hall.
...is provided following both of our Sunday Morning services, with the 8 a.m. service fellowship time held usually in the Ministry Center, the 10:30 a.m. service followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. All members and guests are invited to take part in this time of refreshment and fellowship. Jane Powers has served as chair of the Coffee Hour schedule for many years. All members are urged to provide refreshements for the coffee hour at least one time during the church year. A sign-up sheet is provided in the Parish hall.
Alcoholics Anonymous
At least four AA meetings are held each week on the premises of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Fincastle. An open meeting for all interested in learning more about the organization is held each Saturday evening at 8 PM. Closed meetings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 PM and a Women's Closed Meeting is held Thursday afternoons at 5 PM. All meetings are held regardless of other holiday schedules, although on occasions the group may be asked to meet in the Ministry Center instead of the Parish Hall, in which case signs are posted. For further information on AA meetings and locations, please contact AA - Roanoke, Va area.
Brian Center Nursing Care
A monthly Eucharistic service has been held at the Brian Center, Fincastle, with members of St. Mark's Church in attendance. This ministry started with participation by members of the St. Mark's youth group, members of both ECW and EMF, the Choir, and the Altar Guild. For many residents of the Brian Center it is a special treat, since communion is not served to them as a group by any other church in the area.
Missions
St. Mark's supports a number of missions around the world, including the work of Episcopal Relief and World Development, support of a missionary of the South American Missionary Society, African Team Ministries, financial and prayer support of the Honduras Medical Missions, the Heifer Project, as well as a number of other mission groups, and organizations which are favorites of various members of the congregation. A number of St. Mark's members have taken short term mission trips to bring back a broader understanding of global needs to our congregation.
